Tayross Associates building surveyors have been recently involved in several projects for people who's names shall remain Anonymous. In one particular project in Westminster, we were called in to investigate a foul-smelling odour coming from the basement. Upon further investigation, we found out that a pump within a plant room had leaked and the water has seeped into the lift pit well in the basement. The built-up water had become stagnant and the smell had travelled up the lift shaft and was permeating into the living areas.
This was resolved by pumping out the lift shaft, making sure that the plant room had a sump outlet so that this would not happen again. The lift shaft was also fitted with a leak detection system to give early warning. This resolved the issue and the clients were very happy to have their home restored.
